Braxton catches up with us ahead of the release of his much acclaimed new single ‘Body’ – we talk remixes and the state of the current music industry.

FFY: Your new single ‘Body’ has a fantastically catchy melody and has got some real recognition within the industry. How do you go about developing something like this?

B: I think I started this track a long time ago, maybe a couple of years ago, I’ve since re-written it in a variety of different ways and this is the version that stuck. Every summer I would work on it and make it sound bright and happy, then as soon as winter came it would completely change. I think my manager got fed up of me changing it and just sent it out without telling me ;)

FFY: You’ve remixed for the likes of Snakehips and Rufus, do you feel like this is a stepping stone – working your way to releasing your own material, or would you look to continue to do this?

B: Remixes are definitely something I’d like to continue working on, it’s nice to have a balance between working on remixes and original material because the approach is very different for both. I quite like the deadlines when working on remixes, it makes a welcome change to working on original material that can evolve over many months.

FFY: The online boom has created opportunity for more budding musicians. Do you feel it’s difficult to differentiate yourself, and be recognised in the music industry at the moment?

B: In some ways you could argue that it’s harder but I really don’t think it is. There’s a massive pool of talent out there, and thanks to online services it’s now easier than ever to hear all sorts of music from all over the world - but in reality, the pool of REAL talent is just as big as it should be - if you’re good enough then eventually you’ll find your own success. I think the challenge comes for A&R/label bosses/pluggers etc to be good enough to identify the real talent over the mediocre.

FFY: Is there anyone in particular you’d like to work alongside? and where would be your dream gig?

B: Ha, the answer to this probably changes every day but right now I’d love to make some epic trancey vibes with Lisa Gerrard. Already had my dream gig earlier this year at Fabric. It’s soul destroying to think I’m never gonna get to dance there again :(

FFY: What are your plans for the near future? Will you be hitting the music festival scene next year?

B: Yep, hopefully more shows and definitely festivals next year. Also much MUCH more music on the horizon so keep an eye out ;)
