Are festivals making the club scene obsolete?

The club scene has been the cornerstone of our social lives for decades, but is the tide now turning and are preferences changing? The demand is still there for these kind of events but the range of choice is growing massively, and being able to meet the requirements for ‘money well spent’ is constantly challenging.

Club goers are becoming increasingly deterred by the high entrance fees, expensive bar prices and poor music choices, looking instead for alternatives such as pubs/bars with a DJ or indeed the festival scene. But is it festivals that are taking the business away?

Festivals are able to offer many aspects that a club night cannot. They create a different world for the time you’re there, bringing together some of the best artists in an environment where there are a whole host of different activities and music on offer. Some festivals are priced similarly to a club night, yet you get more for your money. Even the festivals that are more expensive seem like a better option as it’s seen as an ‘experience’.

With this being said, the club scene is by no means gone, but it’s definitely changing. Clubs like Fabric have re-opened, proving that the need is still there. Many club nights such as Shorebitch, Gold Teeth and Sink The Pink are regulars on the festival scene, and some club nights such as Mint (Mint Festival) and Cirqu Du Soul (El Dorado Festival) have even created their own festivals.

The increasing popularity of the festival scene has certainly changed the ‘going out’ scene and has opened previously untapped markets enabling people to get more for their money, however, the club scene is far from dead. And what’s the great thing for all of you? You’ve more choice than ever.
