Sun’s out, cock…tails out!

Ignoring the awful pun, the sun is out in the UK, and it is transporting me to holiday mode, and nothing beats siting in the sun with a gorgeous cocktail in hand. Well now you have another excuse to raise a glass, as today, Tuesday 13 May, is World Cocktail Day.

This day marks the anniversary of the first definition of a cocktail back in 1806. Whether you’re a fan of classic concoctions or experimental elixirs, there’s no better place to toast the occasion than the vibrant cocktail scene of London. To help you celebrate in style, here are our top 5 picks for the best cocktail bars in the capital.

1. Discount Suit Company – Spitalfields

Hidden Gem with Vintage Vibes

Nestled beneath an old suit shop in Spitalfields, Discount Suit Company is a speakeasy-style cocktail bar that’s as unassuming as it is brilliant. Hidden beneath the guise of a…discount suit shop, the intimate, low-lit space is filled with character, offering a cozy escape from the bustling streets above. The cocktail menu is updated seasonally, featuring unique twists on the classics.

2. Lyaness – South Bank

Modern Masterpieces with a View

Overlooking the Thames with stunning views of London’s gorgeous skyline, Lyaness is the award-winning venture by world-renowned bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana (aka Mr. Lyan) – the man behind my favourite bar of all time White Lyan. The menu focuses on unique ingredients that push the boundaries of mixology. The chic, modern decor and river views make it the perfect spot for World Cocktail Day selfies in the sun.

3. Frank’s – Peckham

Rooftop Vibes with Stunning Views

Perched atop a multi-story car park in Peckham, Frank's Café is a South London summer staple offering breathtaking panoramic views of London’s skyline. Known for its relaxed atmosphere and vibrant energy, Frank's serves up simple yet refreshing cocktails perfect for warm evenings. Try their Aperol Spritz or a classic Negroni while you watch the sunset over the city. It’s the ideal spot to belatedly celebrate World Cocktail Day with friends and good vibes when it re-opens on Friday 16 May.

4. Jazu – Deptford

A Hidden Gem with a Jazzy Twist

Located at the start of Deptford High Street, Jazu is a stylish cocktail and listening bar with a passion for good music and unique drinks. This hidden gem is perfect for those who want to step off the beaten path and discover something new. - the setting is intimate, with moody lighting, and sultry sounds during the day before a bit of dancing after dark. Jazu’s menu of music is a smorgasbord of DJs across various genres, while the drinks menu is fantastic – my favourites are Hemingway Daiquiri and the Pineapple Sour, oh and we always have to get some Pickle Back shots…it would be rude not to!

5. Satan's Whiskers – Bethnal Green

Old-School Cool with a Modern Edge

Tucked away in Bethnal Green, Satan's Whiskers is a neighbourhood bar that prides itself on serving fresh, ever-changing cocktails in a relaxed setting, giving you something new to experience every time you visit (and trust me, you will be back!). The vintage decor, taxidermy displays, and old school hip-hop soundtrack create a vibe that’s both gritty and cool. I went here for post-engagement celebration drinks, so that tells you what I think of the place! Some seats are kept for walk-ins, but I’d suggest making a reservation to avoid disappointment.

Celebrate World Cocktail Day 2025 in Style!

Whether you’re drawn to the hidden charm of Discount Suit Company, the gorgeous vistas of Frank’s, or the vintage vinyl of Jazu, London’s cocktail scene has something for every taste. So, grab a date or a mate, make your reservations, and toast to World Cocktail Day 2025 in one of the world’s most exciting cocktail capitals.
